First day of swimming

Today was the day I was waiting for. I was excited and nervous all day (and half asleep) but I woke up at 3.10pm. Time to go swimming! I couldn’t wait, but I was really nervous. We have a huge group filled with awesome girls (even though I don’t know half of them, I am sure they are all great!) and I am not the only new one to swimming, we have a starters-group of 7 girls.

Kassie first showed us the different strokes there are and Karen (the female coach) told us how they were called. Then we had to do them. We started with freestyle (translation: borstcrawl) and later we did backstroke (rugcrawl). We also did another, breaststroke (kikkerslag/schoolslag) but I am not really good at that one. I am used to doing that with my head above the water, but we have to go under and up, under and up. Cannot do it! I had the feeling I did really good at backstroke and I think it was my best one, because I got a compliment. I didn’t count how much yards we swam, I’ll do that tomorrow, haha! I am also going to weigh myself now and see how much weight I will lose, since I am not used to working out.

Our coaches are really nice too. We have Karen and Brett, a married couple. They both give us great advice and I was not uncomfortable at all (after not being in a bathingsuit for half a year.) I really liked swimming. With other sports I always have to stop to breath, but with swimming I don’t. I can go on without hyperventilating. It is also a sport in which you use all your muscles. I am excited for the other practices and meets and when we get our suits and everything!
