Just do it

With a membership at the Y, you also get 4 appointments with a personal trainer/coach for free. We had our first one today! We had to make a profile, with things we wanted to work on and what our main goals are. My main goal is getting better in swimming. To do that, I need to work on my arm strength (they get tired first), my legs and my condition. Next to getting better at swimming, I want to be able to sport longer, get a better condition and just build some muscle (and with that, lose some fat, haha!). Next to swimming, I want to be able to run (because I can do that for free. That’s important for when I get home, sportschools are too expensive over there!)
Together with the trainer, we made some kind of schedule. We are doing cardio 3 to 6 times a week for 45 to 90 minutes. I want to do this on monday, wednesday and probably sunday. We are also going to do weights, 2 to 3 times a week. Between those times, there have to be 48 hours of rest. Weights will be on tuesday, thursday and saturday. He recommends one day of rest during the week, mine (ours) will be friday. I was thinking about sunday first, but I think friday is better. It is the last day of the workweek and you just want to relax. On sunday, I will be home all day (or do chores/run errands) so I would like to go to the Y.
For cardio, we can do different things. I don’t know what there is to choose between (I’m a total newbie to sports) but since I also want to improve running, I got a beginners schedule. It is 18 weeks and every week you go up a level. It starts with 8 minutes walking and only in week 7 you start running. I am probably going to start in week 4 or 5, because I can walk longer than 8 minutes, haha!
I have my next appointment this wednesday at 9pm and we are going to work on cardio. I am excited, because I want to get this going! In that way, I know what to do when I go back to the Netherlands and I don’t really want to start if I don’t know what I am doing, since I don’t want to hurt myself/the machines (haha). I really hope I can keep this up! I never really worked out and I never felt like it, but now I actually just did it; it feels really good! It sucks that schools in the Netherlands are so expensive, otherwise I would have taken a membership at a school and a pool there too!
And a question! Of course I can listen to music! What music do you guys like to listen to while working out? Help me!

Wow, it’s great that you’re going to do fitness a lot, I’m jealous, I just can’t keep it up (and it’s expensive :P). Good luck on that! And for the music, it at least has to be up tempo music I think… but I have no idea…
